Babies Galore!
We had a great time at babies and bagels today. What a turnout! I am amazed at the number of new babies in the past month. Among us were 3 newborns, several toddlers, grandparents, and mothers. We are quite a sight when we all get together. It's great to know our community is growing and we still have time to get together and play. Thanks again to Melinda for getting us out of the house and feeding us. This is a wonderful group for fun, support, and a little out of the house time.

NCC FREE TREE DAY, APRIL 25, 2009
Nora-Northside Community Council, Inc. (NCC) again celebrates Arbor Day by purchasing and giving four hundred native to Indiana American cranberry trees to the public. The free trees will be available Saturday (April 25) from 9 a.m. until noon, but only as long as the supply lasts. The distribution site is at 9245 North Meridian St.This is the twentieth year for NCC's tree event; and at the completion of this year's event, a total of almost 9500 free trees will have been given to the public through those years. Those who pay 2009 NCC membership dues on tree day will receive an extra gift. The American cranberry tree is actually a very large shrub which matures at 8 to 12 feet and provides three seasons of interest. White flower clusters bloom in late spring. Dark green leaves turn wine-red in fall, and the plant's clusters of red berries, which ripen in September, provide edible fruit for birds and wildlife. (Early Americans stewed the berries with sugar into a cranberry -sauce as a source of Vitamin C.) The plant is useful as a hedge, back-ground or border plant and will grow in partial shade. Each plant will have been hand-wrapped by NCC Board members in wet newsprint and placed in a plastic bag to help it survive until planted. (Roots must be kept damp until planting.) Instructions for planting will be included with the tree.

Lilly Day Of Service Volunteers!
Hi Ladies,
I am in need of a little help if possible. I need to recruit some volunteers for the Lilly day of Service to install the benches for the play ground and to work on the brick pavers and totem poles, I am hoping these could be people who helped with the playground so they would know what to do. Could you help me solicit these people?
Also, good news, we will be having a special art exhibit at the “World’s Smallest Art Gallery” in Carmel the last week of May and the first week of June. This place is in the Guinness book of world records and gets a lot of publicity. The problem is that we have to man the gallery ourselves. I need to get some volunteers for a couple of times any thoughts?
Thanks,

Meals!
I realize that there are a lot of requests for donations coming through currently and hope everyone has had a chance to fill a need this month, but I wanted to remind everyone that we have a couple people who could still use a little help if there are any more cooks out there. Laura Dill recently had surgery and will be off her feet for a bit, and the O'Conner's had a baby girl. Anything will be helpful to either family. Karen is out of town for the week, so if you have a donation please e mail me to let me know and to gather information for delivery.
Thank You,

Monsignor Busald Volunteer Service Award
Hey everyone - Just wanted to let you know that I received word that SJA's Paula Hartzer was selected by CYO to receive its prestigious Monsignor Busald volunteer service award this year. This is to honor Paula's many years of service to the youth and athletic programs at SJA. It's also a neat thing for SJA when one of our own is recognized for their contributions to the youth of our parish and school. I'm sure that many of you know Paula, but for those that don't, I can tell you that she was a tireless and dedicated supporter of the youth and athletic activities at SJA. Her award is very much deserved!
If you get the opportunity, please take a moment to congratulate Paula on this accomplishment. The actual presentation ceremony is Wednesday, May 6th at 7pm at SS. Peter and Paul Cathedral. We would appreciate any of you who are able to attend the event. It's a worthwhile and cool program to attend!
